About Me
I am a Business Analyst/Computer Programmer and due to heavy use of the computer keyboard and mouse I have had carpal tunnel syndrome pain for over four years now (Who knew working in an office could cause so much pain!). Over the years, I have had multiple sessions with my family doctor, Specialists and Physiotherapists went through physiotherapy, laser treatments, prescription pain killers, anti-inflammatory medication, many variations of wrist exercises and even acupuncture all of which helped reduce the pain at that moment, but did not last long, the pain always came back. So I did a review of my options and decided these treatments were not something I could afford and I wasn’t sure I wanted to pop pills for the rest of my life anyway.
So I decided to do my own research on the internet and see how other people with the same issue were getting relief. What I found was interesting, the solution that provided the most pain relief to carpal tunnel sufferers was not pills or even surgery, it was wrist braces. Read this medical study which concludes that wrist braces are very effective in treating carpal tunnel syndrome. I had used them many times over my years of suffering and I found them to be most uncomfortable even to wear when sleeping. But what I found as I did more research was that (as with many products), not all wrist braces are created equal, some are cheap and bulky others were expensive, comfortable and stylish but ineffective.
Based on my findings I now needed to choose the appropriate carpal tunnel wrist braces. Most of the ones I had purchased and used previously were picked up from my local drugstore, the selection was minimal. So began my quest which led me to find my perfect wrist brace.
So I began my quest at amazon.com, but I was soon overwhelmed by the vast selection of wrist braces they carried and I did not have a budget to get them all. So I decided to do the following:
1. Choose the wrist braces with the most favorable user reviews on amazon.com (4-5 Stars)
2. Review the product description and identify what the key points of that wrist brace was
3. Read all the amazon.com user reviews and summarize and aggregate the identified likes and dislikes details.
4. Search the internet for other user reviews of the product and do the same
5. Ignore the Price point. I did this on purpose, because I wanted the best and I was willing to pay for it.
Do not think that a wrist brace alone will cure your pain, it is important to also fix the cause of the pain. In my case I have also made changes to the underlying causes of my carpal tunnel syndrome, like taking frequent computer breaks and making sure I work with ergonomic products and making sure my workstation is setup appropriately.
Yes, wrist braces are restrictive, look dorky
and generally get in your way (especially when using a computer), but they do help to keep your wrist positioned correctly and reduce the pain. As I’m sure many others like you and me are suffering with this pain, I have created this site with all my findings to help others find information on carpal tunnel braces so that other carpal tunnel pain suffers can make an appropriate chose. I’d also like this to be an interactive blog where others can provide their own reviews on what braces worked for them and what did not work and why, and we can make this site a good resource for people who are looking for the right carpal tunnel braces. Many of the reviews on this site are created based on aggregated reviews both positive and negative from various product review sites and are not always based on my personal experience with the product.
